  • Recipe For Orange Sangria

    Ingredients

    2 (750 milliliter) bottles dry white wine (such as Pinot Grigio)
    3/4 cup brandy
    1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle ginger ale
    1 lemon, sliced
    1 orange, halved and sliced
    1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle club soda (optional)

    Directions

    Combine Pinot Grigio, brandy, and ginger ale in a large pitcher. Stir in lemon and orange slices. Refrigerate for at least one hour.

    To serve, pour sangria into ice-filled glasses. If desired, top with club soda. Garnish each glass with an orange slice.

  • Recipe For Wine Soaked Mushrooms

    Ingredients

    1 tablespoon butter
    1 tablespoon olive oil
    1 pound button mushrooms, sliced
    2 medium onions, sliced
    3 cloves garlic, chopped
    2 teaspoons dried thyme
    1 (750 milliliter) bottle red wine
    1 (14.5 ounce) can beef broth
    1 tablespoon white sugar
    1 pinch salt and pepper to taste

    Directions

    Heat the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions; cook and stir until translucent, 5 to 10 minutes. Stir in the garlic and thyme; cook and stir for a few minutes, then add the mushrooms. Cook for about 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid from the mushrooms evaporates.

    Pour in the whole bottle of wine and the beef broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium and stir in the sugar. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the liquid is almost entirely gone, about 1 1/2 hours. Season with salt and pepper. Serve as a side, or topping for steaks or crostini.

  • How To Make Mixed Vegetable Salad II

    Ingredients

    8 ounces mixed vegetables
    1 (15 ounce) can red beans, drained and rinsed
    1/4 cup chopped onion
    1/4 cup chopped celery
    1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper

    1/2 cup white wine vinegar
    3/4 cup white sugar
    1 teaspoon prepared mustard
    1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

    Directions

    In a mixing bowl, combine the mixed vegetables, beans, onion, celery and bell pepper.

    In a small sauce pan, combine vinegar, sugar, mustard and flour. Bring to boil, remove from heat and set aside to cool.

    Pour dressing over vegetables and toss. Refrigerate for at least 6 hours and serve.

  • Thyme-Rubbed Steaks with Sauteed Mushrooms Recipe

    Ingredients

    2 teaspoons paprika
    1 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon ground black pepper
    1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    1/2 teaspoon onion powder
    1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

    1 pound New York strip steaks, cut 3/4 inch thick
    1 (8 ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms
    1/4 cup minced shallot
    2 tablespoons butter
    2 tablespoons red wine
    1 tablespoon vegetable oil
    salt and pepper to taste

    Directions

    In a small bowl, mix together the paprika, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and thyme. Sprinkle onto each side of the steaks, pressing in so it adheres. Set aside.

    Melt the butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shallots; cook and stir for about 1 minute. Add the mushrooms, and cook for a few more minutes, until tender. Stir in the red wine, and cook until most of the liquid has evaporated. Remove from the heat and keep warm.

    Heat the oil in a separate skillet over medium-high heat. Fry steaks for 5 to 7 minutes per side, or to your desired degree of doneness. Remove to a plate and let rest for a few minutes. Top with mushrooms and serve.
